Thomas Baer is an Adjunct Professor in Applied Physics and Executive Director of the Stanford Photonics Research Center, Stanford University. He is leading the Global Environmental Measurement & Monitoring (GEMM) Initiative sponsored by Optica and the AGU. His current scientific research is focused on developing imaging and biochemical analysis technology for exploring the molecular basis of human developmental biology and regenerative medicine, optogenetics, and developing new technologies for environmental measurement and monitoring. He is a Fellow of AAAS, Optica, and a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He served as the President of OSA (now Optica) in 2009.
